Women's rights activist shot dead in Afghanistan
The fears for women's safety in a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan have come into sharp focus this weekend, with the discovery of the bodies of six women who'd been shot dead in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif. Among the victims was a civil society activist called Forouzan Safi, who went missing a week ago. She had reportedly received a message offering her help to leave Afghanistan. Newshour spoke to someone who knew her -- a woman from Mazar-i-Sharif who's worked for an international NGO and who spoke to Newshour in August, as the Taliban took power. Back then, she was already afraid of what the future held for her and her young children. So what did she think when she heard about the deaths of the women in her city?
