Farming produces 9% of the UK’s harmful greenhouse gases, mostly from the dairy and meat industry. But can young farmers curb climate change?
Farmers are under pressure to be more green – agriculture makes up 9% of the harmful greenhouse gases produced in the UK, mostly from the dairy and meat industry. Fears over the environment are making people change their eating habits, with many younger people moving towards a more plant-based diet.
Newsbeat’s Daniel Rosney meets Robert Campbell and Tom James, who say farmers get a bad rep when it comes to sustainability. They are part of a new generation of farmers who are feeling the impact of climate change on their land, through flooding and droughts. But instead of being seen as a problem, they believe farming could be a solution to reining back the harm caused by climate change.
