Run Run: The 'puppy' that turned out to be an Andean fox
A family in Peru who thought they had bought a dog only realised they had an Andean fox on their hands after it started attacking other animals in their area. The Sotelos bought the puppy for $13 from a small shop in the capital, Lima, believing it was a purebred husky.
Jessica G谩lvez, from the wildlife organisation SERFOR, explains how the family were told Run Run had been raised domestically in Lima, but as he started growing, he started to hunt the local pigs and chickens. She says it's an example of the dangers of the illegal trade in animals and that the traders may have killed the mother to get to the puppies. Run Run is now in a Lima zoo, where he's receiving medical checks. He may well remain there having never been taught the skills needed to survive in the wild.
