Libya: Saif al-Islam Gaddafi bids for presidency
The son of Libya's late leader Muammar al-Gaddafi has registered as a candidate in the country's first direct presidential election set for December 2021. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi's support for a brutal crackdown on protesters 10 years ago tarnished his image. He was himself captured by a militia and held for six years. Since that 2011 uprising, Libya has been riven by conflict. He is also wanted on war crimes charges by the International Criminal Court. So what effect will this candidacy have in Libya? Anas El Gomati is a Libya analyst and Director of the Sadeq Institute.
