The Downing Street Christmas Party - anger, resignation and investigation
The PM has tried to silence mounting anger about the Downing Street Christmas Party apologising for the footage of Number 10 staff joking about the gathering during lockdown.
The Downing Street Christmas Party has left many people furious. This time last year - at a time when millions were facing tight covid restriction and couldn’t see loved ones during the festive period – a gathering was happening inside Number 10 – though they continue to deny this.
The anger is not just a "Westminster Bubble" thing – and it’s not just from Boris Johnson's political opponents…. several Conservative MPs have spoken out, livid about video footage showing Downing Street staff laughing about how they'd have to explain the gathering in December last year, if news of it ever came to light.
And a year on from the party – it has come to light. Boris Johnson has apologised for the video and has ordered an inquiry into whether rules were broken. But he remains under intense scrutiny. This is 5 Minutes On the Downing Street Christmas Party.
