How Viagra came to be the fastest selling drug in history
The impotence pill Viagra may be a useful treatment against Alzheimer's disease, say US researchers who have been studying its effects. The Cleveland team analysed a database of 7 million patients and found men who were on the drug had a lower risk of Alzheimer's. So what do we know about the drug?
Dr Margaret McCartney explains how Viagra came to be the fastest selling drug in history after its effect on impotence was discovered during research for the heart condition angina. Matthew Fox, Professor of Global Epidemiology from Boston University, says that although the US research is of interest, more studies will be needed to confirm its effectiveness for Alzheimer's disease.
