Children don't always have the opportunity to play, but in many ways, play is fundamental to a child's future. When cities are overcrowded, apartments are small and parents are busy, it can be hard for children to access environments where they can play together. But many believe that those experiences are of huge benefit to children's development, helping a child make sense of the world, and even ordering the 'messy' connections in their brain.

In Dhaka, in Bangladesh, the Lego Foundation has collaborated with BRAC, an international development organisation, to roll out Play Labs. These are stimulating, colourful and playful environments for children under five who do not have access to pre school facilities. Ferdousi Khanom from BRAC, and Tania Akter Moushoumi, a playleader at Play Labs, explain the importance of play and how it can foster skills such as leadership, creativity, resilience and compassion.
