Consultation now planned on scrapping Liverpool's elected mayor

Should the role of elected mayor of Liverpool be scrapped?

This is the question people in the city will be asked later this year, but the current mayor says this won't be in the form of a referendum, because it will cost too much.

Instead, the council will run a consultation with residents over the summer.

The ruling Labour group has tabled a motion to this effect to be debated at a full council meeting next week.

Liverpool's current mayor, Joanne Anderson, has been speaking, along with Liberal Democrat opposition on the council, Richard Kemp.
