Afghanistan: Two women activists disappear in Kabul
People close to the women believe they were seized by the Taliban, but the Taliban have since denied any involvement and say a video circulating on social media is "fake".
Human rights groups in Afghanistan have been reporting on the fact that women brave enough to protest against their lack of rights since the Taliban resumed control in August 2021 have been attacked and threatened. Now, campaigners have told the 大象传媒 that two female activists, Tamana Zaryabi Paryani and Parawana Ibrahimkhel, have been abducted in Kabul by the Taliban.
大象传媒 presenter and correspondent Yalda Hakim say she has heard reports that the two women were protesting in Kabul on Sunday, and that they were then seized by the Taliban later in the week. A video circulating on social media shows men banging down a door and women pleading wtih them to come back the following day. People close to the women believe it was the Taliban, but the Taliban have since denied any involvement and say the video is "fake". She says that there have been many other reports of women disappearing, and of the Taliban saying they will investigate, but with no further outcome.
