Life on the remote island of South Georgia
Let's go to the edge of the Atlantic Ocean near Antarctica and the island of South Georgia, a British Overseas Territory located near the Falklands.
The island has a population of just 22 people who live with "the famous wondering albatross… penguins… southern elephant seals". It also homes the South Georgia Museum, which has just reopened.
Usually, the museum is only open for six months at a time due to the extreme weather but it was closed for longer due to the Covid pandemic.
Jayne Pierce just came back to the UK after living on the Island of South Georgia, happily welcoming tourists after a long, pandemic induced, two year absence. Newsday's Amie Liebowitz wanted to learn more about the site but first asked on behalf of all of us, how do you get there?
