The men's 500m & women's 3000m relay short track speed skating finals at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The men's 500m is the short track event that hosts China have most been most looking forward to. Wu Dajing won China’s only short track gold in PyeongChang with victory in this race, and the world record-holder is back to defend his crown. China have already doubled that tally in Beijing with victory in the mixed relay and Ren Ziwei’s win in the 1000m – Ren now has a third gold in his sights. South Korea’s 1500m champion Hwang Dae-heon goes in QF3. World champion Shaoang Liu of Hungary goes with brother Shaolin Sandor Liu, determined to get his first individual gold after being disqualified from the 1000m, having crossed the line first and thinking he had won.

The Netherlands set a world record in the B final in PyeongChang – which they have since surpassed – and actually won bronze because two teams were disqualified in the A final. The Dutch will be favourites, having qualified fastest for the final in Beijing and they have extra motivation to win gold – Lara van Ruijven, a member of the 2018 bronze-winning team, tragically died in 2020, aged 27, days after suddenly falling ill at a training camp in France. The Dutch quartet will wear panther hearts on their racing suits in tribute to Van Ruijven, who used to skate in a panther-themed helmet and eyewear.
