GB's Kirsty Muir & Katie Summerhayes aim to qualify for the women's freeski slopestyle final at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Team GB’s youngest member, 17-year-old Muir, impressed with a fifth-place finish on her Olympic debut in the big air, and has been tipped for even better things in the slopestyle. In March 2021, at just 16, Muir claimed her first World Cup medal in just her fourth appearance, winning silver in a slopestyle event in Colorado. Her teammate Summerhayes is finally injury-free at a Winter Olympics, after knee surgery and an ankle issue affected her preparation and performance at the last two Games. The Sheffield-born 26-year-old will need to draw on all of her experience in order to reach the final. Britain could have been represented by three athletes in this event but unfortunately 2018 slopestyle bronze medallist Izzy Atkin failed to recover from a broken pelvis she sustained two months ago. China’s ‘ice queen’ Eileen Gu continues her quest for a hat-trick of Beijing golds having already ticked the big air off her list on Tuesday. Gu needed her last run to usurp Tess Ledeux to the title and the Frenchwoman will need to refocus here after breaking down in tears at the bottom of the course.
