´óÏó´«Ã½ Bitesize - KS3 English - Writing to persuade
The word persuade literally means to ‘thoroughly sweeten.’
This is a great metaphor for the action of persuasion; when we persuade someone we try and make whatever it is we want seem extremely desirable. We might also ‘sugar-coat’ our words, meaning we use sweet words and sentiments to make our argument even more persuasive. We use persuasion all the time, sometimes without even realising.
