Canadian Protests: Trudeau invokes Emergencies Act
Protests in Canada are now in their third week, as people opposing the country's vaccine mandate for truck drivers have taken to the streets, in the Canadian capital, Ottawa.
Two of the main organisers of the protests have now been arrested.
On Monday, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, invoked an Emergencies Act giving the government a wide range of additional powers to stop the situation from escalating.
Canadian journalist Paul Tadich has been covering the events closely, he told Newsday that security officials were trying to settle protesters, many of whom had brought their children with them:
"I think the calculus here on the part of the authorities is, how do we mount this incredibly complex - what is basically a military operation, with the eyes of the world watching, arrest hundreds or potentially thousands of demonstrators, with potentially dozens of children".
