Owners of P&O Ferries refuse to meet workers
The owners of P&O Ferries have until 5pm today to explain their controversial decision to sack eight hundred members of staff without notice in a pre recorded video message.
Ministers will then consider whether the company broke the law by failing to follow "clear rules" on making people redundant.
Unions have accused P&O Ferries of treating their members with complete contempt after owners refused to meet 鈥巜ith them at a protest outside their headquarters yesterday.
It's also emerged that the government was warned by the company about the redundancies the day before they happened, though minsters say they weren't aware of exactly what was planned until after the event.
