Two Nigerian students: 'We made it out of Ukraine and will continue studying'

Hundreds of young African and Asian students fled Ukraine when the invasion started in February. The 大象传媒 has been in contact with two of them, both Nigerian students. Esekwu was studying in the eastern city of Kharkiv and crossed the border into Hungary. Peace was in the capital Kyiv and is now in Krakow, in Poland.

Esekwu describes how two other medical students, from Austria and Norway, helped him when he first arrived. Peace says she has met a number of other Africans in Poland. Both say they are planning on staying in Europe, as the situation is unstable in Nigeria, and they can take advantage of better internet connections, to continue their studies. Peace says her university in Ukraine has been in touch, and that her course will resume online.

"By God's grace, the insurgency will end." Eskekwu, a Nigerian student currently in Hungary
