Sri Lanka health crisis looms as life-saving supplies run low
Sri Lanka is in the midst of its worst economic crisis in history. Doctors across Sri Lanka say hospitals are running out of medicines and essential supplies as the country's economic crisis worsens. Tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in cities across Sri Lanka over rising food and fuel prices.
The 大象传媒's South Asia Correspondent Rajini Vaidyanathan reports from the country. She says that doctors across Sri Lanka are warning of a potential a health catastrophe as essential supplies run low. The country imports around 85% of its medical supplies, but with foreign currency reserves running low, essential drugs are now difficult to obtain. Lists of drugs have been posted online with appeals for donations, and she says even basic supplies such as pain killers and catheters are now in dangerously short supply.
