Has Black Lives Matter changed black hair care?

The Black Lives Matter movement prompted pledges from the hair industry to be more inclusive. What has changed for black women trying to get their hair done?

Black women have struggled to get their hair cut in mainstream salons. But the Black Lives Matters movement in 2020 prompted pledges from the hair industry to be more inclusive.

Since then, new standards have come in which mean most trainees will learn to cut and style afro-textured hair, and many big brands have been giving their staff extra training to better cater to black women.

But could these changes - while benefitting black customers - be at the expense of other parts of the black community? Presenters Roshan Roberts and Leanne Alie find out.
