HIV Prevention: The Dapivirine vaginal ring a relief for women in fight against HIV
A daily oral Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) pill might not be the most desirable HIV prevention method for many. But there鈥檚 good news for women. South Africa has approved the Dapivirine vaginal ring for use among women above 18 years as an alternative to PrEP. The silicone ring is inserted in the vagina to slowly release an anti-retroviral drug to help protect against HIV at the site of potential infection.
