Helping parents cope if their kids are struggling with their mental health
Watching your child suffer with mental health problems can be distressing and can leave you feeling helpless and even guilty. Some parents in the UK have come up with some strategies that can help with these feelings, and leave you in better shape to support your child more effectively.
Author Ursula Saunders shares a range of tips, from setting boundaries for when you talk about the problems, to noticing small pleasures and changing your reaction to their problems - and even adding inspirational images as your screen saver. She says there are no quick fixes, and you're in it for the "long haul" - but she learnt not to catastrophise when her own child was struggling, and found this helped.
