‘For me it began aged just 8 yrs old..at the worst point, I didn’t want to be alive’ Cllr Kirsten Kurt-Elli on eating disorders

A new traffic light system of guidance has been developed to help healthcare professionals manage people with eating disorders who are seriously ill.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists hopes its new advice will help prevent avoidable deaths from conditions such as anorexia and bulimia as the number of hospital admissions for eating disorders has risen by 84% in the last five years.

Kirsten Kurt Elli is Labour councillor for Northfield on Birmingham City Council and has battled eating disorders since she was a child.
