Road fatalities "nearly double"

The number of people killed on Essex's roads for the first part of 2022 is nearly double what it was for the same period last year.

There have been 18 fatalities in Essex so far in 2022, according to the latest police data, which has been given exclusively to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Essex.

On Sunday, police say they stopped a driver going 120mph on the M11 at Loughton - just five months after passing their test - and with a six-month-baby in the back.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Essex speaks to Adam Pipe, head of roads policing at Essex Police, as well as Claire Armstrong, co-founder of Safe Speeds, and Jackie McCord, whose 16-year-old daughter Cassie was killed in a crash in Colchester in 2011 by a driver with poor eyesight. She successfully campaigned for Cassie's law, in which police can fast track applications to revoke a motorist's licence.
