Mum spends the day sleeping after a bad night, but stirs when the chiropodist starts work on her toe nails

Carolyn spends most of the day deep asleep after a bad night. Andrew can't rouse her during the morning and the carers find the same when they arrive to change her and give her lunch. It's time for the monthly visit by the chiropodist. Finally, when Gill starts work on Mum's sore big toe, she wakes up. Her son uses the opportunity to feed her a bowl of tomato soup. Afterwards he wipes her mouth with kitchen paper and is rewarded by a quiet 'thank you'. Carolyn has late stage mixed dementia (Alzheimer's and vascular) and hasn't left the house since hospital visits in July and September 2021. But Andrew is grateful that she looks physically well and still has a good appetite. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on 大象传媒 Radio Leeds.
