What's changed since COP26?
It鈥檚 been six months since hundreds of delegates were in Glasgow to discuss climate change at the UN鈥檚 COP26 global summit. This week, some are meeting again in Bonn, Germany, to prepare for the Cop27 in Egypt.
Activist Maria Reyes travelled to the Glasgow summit from Mexico, and shares her thoughts on what's happened since. She says that the conference had been the first time that many activists had met, and since then, collaboration and networking between community grassroots and local organisations has increased. However, despite 200 countries pledging to 'phase down' coal dependence, some countries, including Mexico, have ramped up production, particularly if this helps reduce dependence on foreign sources.
"On one side countries want to be less dependent on the fossil fuels they need from abroad, so they're investing even more on production internally."
