Sunderland refutes allegations Hoffman played while testing positive for Covid 19
Sunderland says it "categorically refutes" allegations a former player played for the club while testing positive for Covid 19.
A column in German newspaper Bild - allegedly written by ex Black Cats goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffman - claimed he played for Sunderland while still testing positive for the virus at the start of the year.
The article claims he said after isolating for seven days the "rapid test" he took was still "slightly positive" and that he "had to play with corona".
Sunderland have released a statement to say the article "includes a number of false and inaccurate claims" and they've "contacted the player's representatives to clarify the comments".
The club goes on to say it "complied with all Government and EFL guidance and protocols fully throughout the Covid pandemic and continues to ensure the health and well-being of its staff is protected at all times."
