FIRST TIME VOTERS, ARE THEY INFORMED TO CAST THEIR VOTE CONFIDENTLY?
There's a potential of first time voters to tilt the Kenyan election. This year an estimated 21 million registered voters will take to the polls and cast their vote in the national, county and local government elections. Young people below the age of 35 make up 75% of Kenya's population. Even though the youth make up the majority of Kenya鈥檚 population, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) only managed to register roughly 2.5 million new voters against a target of 6 million, a low number. Voter education or a lack of it is emerging as a likely cause of this apathy. Do these first time voters understand the importance of civic education?
