Fuel protest planned for A12
Protestors are set to hold a rolling road block along the A12 due to rising fuel prices.
Protestors are set to hold a rolling road block down the A12 on 4 July, in conjunction with other planned protests in other UK locations.
The organisers have told ´óÏó´«Ã½ Essex they are holding the protest because they are small haulage companies who have seen a 20p-a-litre increase to their fuel. They say that people are contacting them who are worried about getting to things like hospital appointments, but they have said that they have collected the registration numbers of those vehicles in question and will let them pass through the road block.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Essex speaks to Rachel van Staveren, MD of Cloud 9 Care based in Colchester which offers home care for people in the north east of the county, Rob Hollyman who is Director of Youngs Transport, which has a depot in Purfleet, and Jack Straw, the former Labour Home Secretary who was in that post when there were fuel protests in 2000.
Essex Police have said in a statement:
"We are aware of details of a planned protest on the A12 circulating on social media. We are monitoring the situation and appropriate policing plans will be put in place should we believe they are needed. Whilst we are not in any way anti-protest, we would encourage anyone planning such an event to consider other avenues through which they can make their views known."
