Billie Eilish - Glastonbury's youngest ever headliner

The 20-year-old singer will make history when she steps onto the Pyramid Stage. She's already the youngest artist to reach one billion streams on Spotify.

When Billie Eilish steps onto the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, she'll be making history. At 20, she's the youngest ever solo headliner to play the festival. It's the latest in a string of records for the singer. She's already the youngest artist to reach one billion streams on Spotify and the youngest ever Grammy record-of-the-year winner.

Billie made her Glastonbury debut just three years ago. She was booked in 2019 to play the small John Peel tent - and in the weeks running up to the festival had to be upgraded to the second largest stage, such was the demand to see her. Even then, she says she didn't know what a big deal Glastonbury was until after she'd performed. Now, though, she realises it's a huge privilege.

The 大象传媒's music correspondent, Mark Savage, first met her when she came to London in 2017. Then she was playing at a tiny venue called the Courtyard, which holds around 200 people - and was only really known for a couple of songs. One was Ocean Eyes, which she recorded at the age of 14 as a project for her dance class.

Since then, Mark has interviewed the singer several times. For 5 Minutes On, he looks back at their chats - covering the importance of lyrics and the challenges of fame - and ahead to Billie's record breaking performance at Glastonbury.
