The deadliest earthquake to strike Afghanistan in two decades struck the country on Wedneday, with tremors felt as far away as India and Pakistan. More than 1,000 people have died in the disaster, and heavy rain, threadbare resources and rugged terrain are hampering rescue workers.

Zikria Tory is a volunteer with Aseel, an Afghan e-commerce marketplace that now provides humanitarian aid across the country, and he is helping deliver aid and supplies to the earthquake zone. In an audio diary, he describes the difficult journey from Kabul to the village of Gayan, in the Paktika province, and the devastation he has found there. He meets a family who have lost seven of their members and whose home has been completely ruined.
