The musicians playing in wartime
Making music in wartime: The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra has been hastily assembled from refugees, exempted conscripts and musicians still based in Ukraine. It was founded by Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson, who calls the performers 鈥渁rtistic soldiers of music鈥. The Cultural Frontline spoke to orchestra members about audiences and performers in Ukraine sharing bunkers during air attacks, musicians coping with horrific injuries, and about their own family and friends fighting the Russian invasion. Reporter Anna Bailey heard from flute player Inna Vorobets, and first Nazar Stets, who plays the double bass.
