Russia's security service, the FSB, says it has established that Ukraine was behind the killing of Darya Dugina, daughter of the prominent ultra-nationalist thinker, Aleksandr Dugin. Ukraine has vehemently denied any involvement.

Dugina, 29, died after an explosion on a road outside Moscow, Russia's investigative committee said.

It is thought her father, the Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin, who is known as "Putin's brain", may have been the intended target of the attack.

Dr Sergey Radchenko is Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and has written extensively on Russia. He told Newsday there are also 鈥渟peculations that it could be an FSB operation or private actors鈥� Dugin鈥檚 importance is overstated鈥� Putin did not need Dugin to unleash his war against Ukraine.鈥�
