Summer blockbuster season hits some highs, but falls financially
Hollywood's all-important summer movie season is drawing to a close, and this year it's been a mixed picture. Top Gun: Maverick flew the highest, taking $1.5b at the box office, and original sci-fi movies Nope and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once performed very well. But on a whole, the summer movie season fell short financially – 25 per cent lower than summer 2019. Tom Brook looks back at the hits of summer 2022, and at what can be done to bring audience figures back up to pre-pandemic levels.
