Remembering the Queen: Royal Shakespeare Company

"There was an audible gasp in the audience." RSC Executive Director Catherine Mallyon.

One of our region's proudest exports is the world nenowned Royal Shakespeare Company - of which Her Majesty the Queen was patron since 1961, when it was created.

Catherine Mallyon is the Royal Shakespeare Company's Executive Director and she spoke to Phil Upton on 大象传媒 CWR.

The news broke at teatime on the night of Thursday 8 September, it was too late to cancel the performances of Richard III at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The Company's Executive Director Catherine Mallyon and Artistic Director Gregory Doran went on stage for an announcement just before the performance to the audience who had assembled. They said there was an audible gasp and then the national anthem was played before the show started.

The theatre has plans to organise a public screening of the funeral in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This will be a ticketed event open to everyone.
Details to be confirmed in due course.
