Barrister strikes: ‘It’s a huge issue. We recognise that’

Justice Minister Rachel Maclean joined Emma Barnett on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss courtroom innovations, yet barristers are still on strike in England and Wales.

Victims and witnesses of sexual crimes and modern slavery will be able to have their cross-examination recorded and played later during trial - in a bid to spare them witness box trauma.

But with barristers still on strike in a row over legal aid funding, potentially dangerous criminals are reported to have been released on bail due to delayed trials, including one defendant charged with kidnapping with intention to commit a sexual offence.
