Discovering the sound of Makina on the Calton estate was a game changer for Oakzy B and MC Tiny, transforming their lives from teenagers on the scheme to Scottish rave heroes.
Originally from Spain, this bouncy form of hardcore dance music landed in the UK in the noughties and became a way of life for working class lads in the North East of England - blasting from schemes, cars and clubs in Newcastle and beyond. In the age of streaming and bluetooth technology it’s little surprise that the sound bounced its way into the lives of Scotland’s young team.
In one particular scheme in Glasgow’s East end, these tunes became part of the 2010 generation’s soundtrack. But more specifically, the music went on to transform the lives of Oakland Badza and Dylan Kelly - aka Oakzy B and MC Tiny from Calton. Known as the ‘Wicked Two’, the pair have since established their own kind of Makina transforming their lives from kids on the scheme to Scottish underground rave heroes.
