Royal College of Nursing NI Director on A&E pressures and the nurses' strikes
The director of the Royal College of Nursing says she was shocked beyond words and heartbroken to see for herself the conditions inside the emergency department at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital. She's likened it a battle zone and as a result the RCN has now made the decision to exempt the department from tomorrow's strike action by nurses.
There are already exemptions for critical care and high dependency units. Talks are continuing between health bosses about what treatment will be prohibited during industrial action with some trusts warning of the impact on urgent care.
Speaking to Good Morning Ulster, Rita Devlin says after yesterday's visit to the ED she's decided that it should also not be affected by the industrial action taking place tomorrow and next Tuesday.
