More than 1,000 motorists have been caught failing to put on a seatbelt in the last four months alone.
The figures from Essex Police come ahead of the 40th anniversary of the introduction of laws which force motorists to wear seatbelts.
This week, the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak received a fixed penalty notice for not wearing a seatbelt in a car in which he was a passenger.
