Little Bo Peep, the rhyme about Sussex smugglers

Did you know that the nursery rhyme Little Bo Peep was created in St Leonards at the end of the 18th century?

An author from Hastings has written a book in which he attempts to unravel the mysteries behind 12 of our most well-known nursery rhymes.

In 'Cracking Humpty Dumpty' Tim Devlin links Little Bo Peep to customs men fighting smugglers in St Leonards in the 18th century. He also says Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie started life as a joke about Charles II, known as ‘Old Rowley’, which was also the name of his favourite racehorse.
