Statement from Birmingham City Council

鈥淥ur thoughts are with the family and friends of Mustafa at this awful time. VOI have already implemented a number of immediate actions and have identified further long-term actions. Given the police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and have appealed for witnesses, we are not in a position to be able to comment further while that is on-going.鈥

Statement from VOI

鈥淲e offer our sincere condolences to Mustafa Nadeem鈥檚 family and friends. We are continuing to work closely with both the police and the Coroner鈥檚 Court as they investigate this tragic accident.鈥淪afety is Voi鈥檚 first priority. Only people over 18-years-old with a valid provisional or full driver's licence and method of payment can create a Voi account.鈥淥ur e-scooters are fitted with the latest safety features such as geofencing and speed limits to restrict where riders can travel and speed limitations, including preventing journeys or limiting speeds in built-up areas.鈥淢ustafa鈥檚 accident is a reminder of the importance of account holders acting safely and being responsible when using our service. 鈥淭hose caught acting irresponsibly will be banned from our service and could face potential police prosecution.鈥
