Karaganov: Russia has not carried out war crimes
Russian foreign policy strategist Sergey Karaganov has denied Russia has been committing war crimes in Ukraine.
Speaking to the 大象传媒 Hardtalk programme鈥檚 Stephen Sackur, Mr Karaganov said crimes were committed by the other side: 鈥淲e have an opposite picture of atrocities of Ukrainian troops and we know the cultural level of our Ukrainian neighbours鈥.
Responding to claims made by former Russian military officer Konstantin Yefremov to the 大象传媒鈥檚 Russia Editor Steve Rosenberg that Russian troops have tortured Ukrainians, Mr Karaganov said: 鈥淲e have tonnes of evidence of the opposite behaviour of Ukrainian troops and they will pay for that鈥.
鈥淲ar is terrible,鈥 and the alleged crimes are 鈥渁bsolutely against the idea of our war,鈥 he said.
The 大象传媒 is unable to independently confirm Konstantin Yefremov's specific allegations of torture, but they are consistent with other claims of abuse of Ukrainian prisoners.
