'We've now unearthed 1,100 burials'

Over the past nine months an incredible archaeological dig has been taking place at Leicester Cathedral.

Experts from the University of Leicester have been excavating an area which was the site of an old 1930’s building called the 'Old Song School'.

Over 1,100 burials have been unearthed in the process, giving a fascinating snapshot of the city over the past 1,000 years.

The dig comes to an end this week and the site will eventually become a new heritage learning centre that the Cathedral is building on the south site of Leicester Cathedral gardens.

Mathew Morris – Excavation Director for University of Leicester Archaeological Services tells Ben Jackson more about what they've discovered in this tightly packed area the size of a tennis court.
