From waitress to Oscar nominee
Lesley Paterson was once waiting tables at the Oscars, but now the ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ screenwriter has her chance on the red carpet.
‘All Quiet On the Western Front’ has been nominated for 9 Oscars and 15 BAFTAs.
It's in the running for Best Adapted Screenplay at this year's Oscars, meaning screenwriter, Lesley Paterson, is in the running. The Scottish triathlon world champion bought the rights to the story in 2006 after moving to California, but had to use her triathlon prize money to keep hold of them. Paterson also waited tables to earn extra cash as she tried to break into the film industry – and even found herself waiting on Dame Judi Dench at an Oscars ceremony.
Then, after fifteen years of her trying, Netflix agreed to make the movie. In this episode of 5 Minutes On, our Arts Correspondent, Colin Paterson, gets his running shoes on, and tries to catch up with Lesley in her hometown of Stirling.
