'Leicester has had something in space every year since 1967'

Plans for the UK's first-ever 'Space City' to be based in Leicester have been unveiled.

Space City Leicester is dedicated to space research, production, manufacture and development, and will make Leicester a key part of the UK鈥檚 Space Spine. It's a joint initiative between the University of Leicester, Leicester City Council, and the National Space Centre.

Space City Leicester represents up to 拢233 million of investment in new and planned facilities on the former Pioneer Park development to the north of Leicester city centre.

Research scientists at the University of Leicester have a long and distinguished record of discovery in space science with around 300 academics and researchers working on space and Earth observation, one of the largest groups in the UK.

Chas Bishop, Chief Executive of Leicester's National Space Centre tells Ady Dayman what this means for the city.
