Storm Freddy: Hundreds killed in Mozambique and Malawi
The death toll from Cyclone Freddy in Malawi and Mozambique has passed 200 after the record-breaking storm caused devastation in its second strike on southern Africa.
Myrta Kaulard, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Maputo says Mozambique has been "investing enormously in preparedness and resilience after years of cyclones."
The country has invested in sophisticated early warning systems and buildings have been built in a different way to be more weather resistant. She says, "Mozambique in this week will have received the same amount of water we would have had in half a year and during the rainy season."
