Kamala Harris' first tour of Africa
US Vice President Kamala Harris has arrived in Accra, Ghana as part of a three-nation tour of Africa - her first visit since becoming Vice President.
She was greeted by drummers and dancers at Kotoko International Airport, and described the visit as a statement of the long standing friendship between the US and Africa.
The White House wants to reassert American leadership on the continent where many nations have recently welcomed Chinese investment and the expansion of Russia's military influence.
Newsday spoke to Melvin Foote, president and CEO of the Constituency for Africa, a group that鈥檚 consulted on Africa for US Democratic and Republican administrations for over 30 years.
