US guns: Tennessee lawmakers expelled
Two representatives in the state parliament of the US state of Tennessee have been expelled for protesting on the house floor against the state's gun laws.
The protest followed the shooting at Nashville Elementary School last week in which six people, including three children, were killed.
The house voted on whether to expel three members who had taken part in protests, and two of them have now been removed, meaning they lose their seats.
Newsday heard from Blaise Gainey, the State Government Reporter for the NPR Station in Nashville, who said: "For them to be put up for expulsion for breaking house rules is unprecedented; it's never happened before." He also said that race played a role in those who were expelled, adding: "I'm not the only one who thinks that race played a part in this."
