Recording Careless Whisper in Mrs Ridgeley鈥檚 living room
In 1981, Paul Mex from Brighton found himself in a living room with Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael. With a 4-track Portastudio they turned Mrs Ridgeley's lounge into a makeshift studio. The aim was to record a couple of demo songs to send to record labels in the hope of getting noticed.
Most of the day was spent recording Wham Rap! so when Ridgeley's mum returned home, Careless Whisper had to be done in one take very quickly. Little did the boys know that this song would be voted the nation's favourite song forty years after it was released.
From his studio in Brighton, Paul Mex has gone on to become a highly respected music producer working with artists from across the world.
