Rachel Weisz: We’re so used to seeing violence on screen, why not childbirth?

The actor Rachel Weisz joined Anita Rani in the Woman’s Hour studio recently to talk about her new TV series, Dead Ringers, in which she plays twin gynaecologists Elliot and Beverly Mantle.

An adaptation of the 1988 David Cronenberg film, it’s a psychological thriller about twins who share everything, including drugs and lovers – and will stop at nothing to push medical boundaries to improve healthcare and childbirth for women.

Rachel has won multiple awards, including an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Constant Gardener, and an Olivier Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire.

Rachel told Anita why she was determined to have childbirth portrayed in the series, and about the practicalities of playing twins on screen.
