Khartoum: Reports of looting and sexual violence
The United States has made a further attempt to bring an end to the fighting in Sudan. The Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke on the phone to the leaders of the warring factions and called for a ceasefire.
State department officials said he expressed grave concern about civilian deaths in separate calls with the heads of the armed forces and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF).
Hala al-Karib is a Sudanese activist for women's rights in Khartoum. She told Newsday that she was 鈥渉earing news from friends and colleagues in different parts of Khartoum speaking about RSF soldiers and other types of soldiers鈥rying to break in to homes to loot鈥nd there are unconfirmed reports of sexual violence鈥here is nowhere to go鈥here is no safe routes鈥o instructions from the military鈥o hotlines.鈥
