Sudan fighting: diplomats and foreign nationals evacuated
A growing number of countries have evacuated their diplomats from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, including the UK, France, Germany and the USA as deadly fighting raged into a second week between forces loyal to two rival generals. But many foreign nationals, including diplomats, aid workers and students, remain trapped in Khartoum, as well as millions of Sudanese nationals. Dr Suliman Baldo, the Director of the Sudanese think tank - Sudan Transparency and Policy Tracker, told Newsday that the evacuations are creating anxiety for those left behind. Sudanese are not accessing drinking water and food and the situation is totally unsafe for them. The city's international airport has been rendered inoperable by the conflict, and there's been an exodus of people leaving on buses and cars to neighbouring nations.
